Sent Up Exam 2022 Answers Key Physics Subjective Questions

Q.1. What do you mean by electric potential at a point ?

Ans – Electric potential, the amount of work needed to move a unit charge from a reference point to a specific point against an electric field. Typically, the reference point is Earth, although any point beyond the influence of the electric field charge can be used.

Q.2. Write coulomb’s law for electrostatic force.
Ans – The magnitude of the electrostatic force F between two point charges q1 and q2 is directly proportional to the product of the magnitudes of charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

Q.3. What do you mean by equipotential surface ?
Ans – Equipotential surface is a surface where all the points lying on the surface have the same electric potential. This means that a charge will have the same potential energy at every point on the equipotential surface.

Q.4. Write the definition and SI unit of electric dipole moment.
Ans – Electric dipole moment is defined as the product of charge and the distance between the charges, and is directed from negative to positive charge. The SI unit of electric dipole moment is coulomb meter (Cm).

Q.5. What do you mean by drift velocity ?
Ans – Drift velocity is the average velocity with which electrons ‘drift’ in the presence of an electric field. It’s the drift velocity (or drift speed) that contributes to the electric current.

Q.6. Write two uses of potentiometer.
Ans – Voltage divider: The potentiometer can be used as a voltage divider to change the output voltage of a voltage supply.
Audio control: Sliding potentiometers are commonly used in modem low-power audio systems as audio control devices.

Q.7. What do you mean by Lorentz force ?
Ans – The force exerted on a charged particle q moving with velocity v through an electric field E and magnetic field B.

Q.8. Write the definition of ampere.

Ans – An ampere is a unit of measure of the rate of electron flow or current in an electrical conductor.

Q.9. Write two uses of shunt.
Ans – Two uses of shunt:
(i)The range of ammeter reading can be extended by connecting a shunt resistance to it.
(ii)  The shunt is used in the galvanometer for measuring the large current.

Q.10. What do you mean by capacitive reactance ?
Ans – Capacitive reactance is an opposition to the change of voltage across an element.

Q.11. Write two definitions of refractive index.
Ans – The ratio of the speed of radiation (such as light) in one medium (such as air, glass, or a vacuum) to that in another medium is called refractive index.

Q.12. Write the definition of dispersive power.
Ans – Power of a transparent medium to separate different colors of light by refraction as measured by the difference in refractivity for two specified widely differing wavelengths divided by the refractivity at some specified intermediate wavelength.

Q.13. What do you mean by optical path ?
Ans – Optical path (OP) is the trajectory that a light ray follows as it propagates through an optical medium.

Q.14. What do you mean by Balmer series ?
Ans – The Balmer series is the name given to a series of spectral emission lines of the hydrogen atom that result from electron transitions from higher levels down to the energy level with principal quantum number 2.

Q.15. Write two properties of alpha rays.
Ans – (i) These particles have the minimum penetration power and highest ionization power.
(ii) They are capable of ionizing numerous atoms by a short distance.

Q.16. What do you mean by nuclear fusion ?
Ans – Nuclear fusion involves the combining of several small nuclei into one large nucleus with the subsequent release of huge amounts of energy.

Q.17. What do you mean by forbidden region in semiconductor ?
Ans – Forbidden zone is the energy gap between valence band and conduction band in solids .this gap is large in insulators and small in semi conductors.

Q.18. What do you mean by ground waves?
Ans – A radio wave that propagates on or near the earth’s surface and is affected by the ground and the troposphere.

Q.19. What do you mean by www ?
Ans – The World Wide Web (WWW), commonly known as the Web, is an information system where documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators.

Q.20. What do you mean by isotopes ?
Ans – Isotopes can be defined as the variants of chemical elements that possess the same number of protons and electrons, but a different number of neutrons.
